Research is traditionally recognized as one of the duties of a University Centre and today it is certainly one of the strengths of our Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at the Inselspital.

Obviously, our research activities allow us to increase our knowledge and comprehension of the cardiovascular field and consequently should allow us to improve our clinical performance.

Indeed, thanks to a translational way of thinking, our activities have the potential to significantly impact on our future clinical practice, potentially opening a new arsenal of cardiovascular treatments.

As a tangible example, the low-volume cardioplegic solution we have developed has been immediately accepted to have multiple advantages and is now used routinely in our daily clinical practice.
